Researching Cultural Infrastructure: Buenos Aires

This workshop will both document the infrastructures for cultural production in specific sites in Buenos Aires, and discuss methods and critical frameworks for doing so, across field work, a methodological seminar, and public presentation, bringing together our own team with others working in this field. It provides an opportunity to share and collaboratively expand upon the research tools and frameworks being used within the city of Buenos Aires and the various researchers assembled. The aim is to compare and learn from one another’s methods: mapping; film-making; architectural analysis; policy analysis. Cecilia Dinardi will be presenting a film, Mathias Zarlenga a study on independent culture in Buenos Aires from UNTREF/Ministerio de Cultura GCBA, and Theatrum Mundi their research on Urban Backstages. Each project will be presented in 20 minutes, with a focus on the methods of data collection, followed by a chance for questions and demonstrations. We will then take these methods out into the field, looking at a site via the new approaches learned and reassembling to debate the implications of the different kinds of knowledge they produce.
