How could ways of thinking and making from other practices lead to innovation in engineering and public policy, for more socially and environmentally sustainable cities? This was the question addressed in a presentation by John Bingham-Hall to students on the UCL STEaPP MPA Urban Innovation programme on Friday 8th February. Drawing from a recently published journal article co-authored by John and Dr Ellie Cosgrave, Director of UCL’s City Leadership Lab, the presentation looked at ways that dance practice has been used as a tool to analyse and design movement in the built environment. This forms part of John’s Honorary Senior Lectureship with UCL STEaPP, forming the basis of TM and City Leadership Lab’s ongoing investigation into the potential applications of choreography to urban engineering.
