Welcome: Jane da Mosto, co-founder of weareherevenice
One of the primary modes of negotiating the contemporary cultural city, even as a resident, is increasingly in the mode of the ‘tourist’. Following a day-long workshop which interrogated the relationship between spectatorship and cultural production, drawing on selected case-studies, this public discussion reflected on a new language of value that goes beyond measuring visitor numbers and economic output, to discuss the alternatives to narratives of “culture-led” regeneration.
The Panel included:
Liza Fior, the co-founder of Muf, an architecture/art firm focused on innovative projects that address the social and spatial infrastructures of the public realm. Marta Ajmar, deputy director of the V&A Research Institute (VARI) and head of Postgraduate Programmes, V&A History of Design. Spanish urbanist Josep Montaner and argentinian architect and city planner Zaida Muxi. The respondent was Professor Richard Sennett.
