Embodied Notation
This experiment builds on the Scoring the City workshops, which investigate the possibilities of using graphic scores as a model for architectural and urban design. Taking further inspiration from these and other notational methods across disciplines, this workshops seeks to develop a specific way to record embodied experience within space. We will explore ways to record sensory conditions in static locations and while moving through space. This process will form the foundation of a master thesis that will continue to explore these notative methods as a new model for architectural and urban design, liberating the designer from traditional drawing methods.
This workshop is organised by Jake Johnson (Architecture Masters Student, Central Saint Martins, UAL) as the culmination of a two-month placement with Theatrum Mundi working on the Scoring the City project. The project is led by Gascia Ouzounian (Associate Professor of Music, Oxford University) and John Bingham-Hall (Director, Theatrum Mundi) with support from a Knowledge Exchange Fellowship awarded by The Oxford Research Centre in the Humanities (TORCH).
