Global Cities chair: first meeting

This meeting forms the first event in a new partnership between Theatrum Mundi and the Fondation Maison des Sciences de l’Homme, forged via a new 5 year “Global Cities” co-chair held by Richard Sennett and Saskia Sassen at the Foundation’s Collège d’études mondiales.

Round Table: Global Streets 
Saskia Sassen, Sophie Body-Gendrot (University Paris-Sorbonne), Luca Palmas (Genoa University), Giuliano Battiston (journalist l’Espresso, Manifesto), Ana Falú (National University of Córdoba). 
The project focuses on the importance of indeterminate urban space in our increasingly complex and often divided cities. The key aspect is whether such indeterminate space, here generically named as the global street, can gradually bridge between communities that experience themselves as isolated, suspect, neglected, and the larger public realm.

Richard Sennett and Adam Kaasa (London School of Economics and Political Science)
Professor Sennett and Dr Kaasa will discuss the shared concerns for collaboration between TM and the FMSH, including designing the political in relation to challenges facing cities across the globe, and the politics of performance in relation to the design of spaces for culture.
