Urban Backstages Book Launch

BOOK TICKET

Theatrum Mundi is pleased to announce our latest book, Urban Backstages, to be published by TM Editions on 9 March 2023.

Join us for an evening of discussion and music, celebrating the launch of Theatrum Mundi’s new book Urban Backstages. Reaching across four different cities, London, Glasgow, Paris and Marseille, this collection of essays and drawings aims to amplify the voices, stories and experiences of artists, performers, makers, designers, craftspeople, fabricators, cafe owners and those running small businesses that support cultural production locally.

Returning to Elephant and Castle where our research started, we will open the evening with a series of talks and a panel discussion focusing on the themes of cultural heritage, social value, and the adaptive reuse of buildings. Featuring interdisciplinary researcher and founding chair of Latin Elephant Dr Patria Roman-Velazquez, artist and community organizer Angela Camacho aka The Bonita Chola, Pedro Gil architect and founder of Studio Gil, and Jamie Hignett and David McEwen from architectural design collective Unit 38 with Urban Backstages contributors John Bingham-Hall and Andrea Cetrulo.

We will culminate the evening with music, drinks and empanadas!

The book will launch during a special evening event at Gasworks in Vauxhall on Thursday 9th March at 6:30pm.

Urban Backstages was edited by Cecily Chua, Labeja Kodua Okullu and Marta Michalowska. Featuring essays by Andrea Cetrulo, Cecily Chua, Elahe Karimnia, Fani Kostourou, John Bingham-Hall and Richard Sennett.

The book is available for pre-order here
