Sven Anderson

Dr Sven Anderson is an artist, researcher and architectural consultant based between Dublin and London. Sven has over 15 years’ experience leading projects that explore the role of sound within the context of architecture, city design and spatial planning. He develops artworks ranging from urban sound installations to self-initiated artist placements and fabricated public services, creating platforms to sustain research and production between artists, architects, regional authorities and local communities. Sven holds a BA from Cornell University and a PhD from the Graduate School of Creative Arts and Media (GradCAM) at TU Dublin. He has taught at the National College of Art and Design (NCAD) and delivered presentations on sound, public art and critical spatial practices at universities and design institutions around the world.

 

Sven co-curated Entanglement, Ireland’s pavilion for the 17th International Architecture Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia (2021). Working with Heneghan Peng Architects and Gustafson Porter + Bowman, he developed proposals for the Pulse National Memorial and Museum (Orlando, 2019) and the UK Holocaust Memorial (London, 2017). Recent exhibitions include Void Gallery (Derry, 2019), Secession (Vienna, 2019), Rua Red (Tallaght, 2018), Le Printemps de Septembre (Toulouse, 2018) and The Douglas Hyde Gallery (Dublin, 2018). While based in Ireland, Sven developed public artworks for the Office of Public Works (2021), Wicklow County Council (2016), The National Development Agency for Collaborative Arts (2015) and Dublin City Council (2013). He is co-editor of the books States of Entanglement: Data In The Irish Landscape (2021) and Signal Spectre System: A Late Evening in the Future (2018).
