Elahe Karimnia

Dr. Elahe Karimnia is Lecturer in ‘Critical Urban Practice’ at University of the West of England (UWE Bristol). Her work is at the intersection of urban design and critical theory, and her interest is in [theorising] spatial practices in cities as experimental and socio-political approach to designed spatial injustices. As a Ph.D. Fellow, Elahe conducted research on ‘Producing Publicness’ at the department of Urban and Regional Studies at KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, focussing on user appropriation as a dialectical approach in design processes. She has collaborated with ‘Future of Place’ research group, the global forum about public spaces and placemaking, and joined the department of geography and planning at University of Toronto as a visiting scholar. Elahe has been teacher, lecturer, and critic in different courses including Contemporary Urban Theory, International Placemaking design studio, and public space higher seminars. She was Associate at Theatrum Mundi, leading on Urban Research and Spatial Practice.
